Corn
Today we are talking about central and eastern Nebraska corn. Dry land corn has been hurt badly by drought. Much of this corn was curled up and dying in the past two weeks. Irrigated corn is growing well and looking good. Along comes rain on the fourth of July, and many areas picked up 1-2.5”, but with that rain came high winds (70 mph) and hail from pea-sized to baseball size. We needed the rain badly, and most of us are thankful for it. Mother Nature has some sense of humor.
The planting season was very spread out due to cold weather. Early corn is beginning to tassel, while a majority has a couple of weeks of growing as we head into the pollination period. Farmers with irrigation have been watering seemingly ever since they put their planters away. While the water is good to have, it is expensive, and many are done spending money. I think before we make that decision, we had better think about crop needs and circumstances. With the storms and cooler temperatures, we have disease potential, so scout your fields in the next two weeks. Fungicide applications may be a good idea, and with that in mind, a fertilizer application of Finish Line or NocKout from NACHURS is a great stress mitigation tool after corn has been hurt by storms. Giving corn plants a little wake-up is likely a money maker in this situation.
Corn is a living, breathing plant that fights to stay alive. Helping plant health with fungicides and fertilizer works to maximize yields. Using balanced fertilizer from NACHURS is a smart idea. NACHURS Finish Line is an 8-4-6 with Copper, Boron, Manganese, and Zinc, giving your crops exactly the wake-up corn needs to get through pollination and ear fill. NACHURS NocKout is a new product that uses slow-release nitrogen, Bio-K, and boron (10-0-10-.25B) really help plants get through pollination and maximize yields.
